International Tea Day
Kenyans in the UAE join the nation in the international Tea day.

On 1 June, the Kenya Consulate General in Dubai joined missions across the world in marking Madaraka Day — the day Kenya attained internal self-governance from colonial rule in 1963. The commemoration brought together members of the Kenyan community in the United Arab Emirates for a reflection on the journey of nationhood and the diaspora’s role in the next chapter.
The ceremony opened with the national anthem and the raising of the flag at the Consulate, followed by remarks from the Consul General highlighting the priorities of Kenya’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda and the diaspora’s contribution to remittances and skills transfer.
The Consulate thanks members of the community who travelled from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and the Northern Emirates to mark the day together.
Madaraka is a reminder that nationhood is not a finished project. Each generation owes the next a Kenya more capable than the one it inherited — and our diaspora is part of that work.
