Working in the UAE

Tens of thousands of Kenyans live and work in the United Arab Emirates — in hospitality, healthcare, security, construction, education, finance, IT, and domestic work. The Consulate supports Kenyan workers through outreach, welfare monitoring, and intervention in distress cases.

Before you travel

  • Have a signed employment contract that you have read and understood
  • Confirm your employer's identity and contact details
  • Keep copies of your contract, passport, NEA agency licence, and travel documents with family in Kenya
  • Save the Consulate contact details on your phone
  • Register with the Consulate on arrival

On arrival in the UAE

  • Do not surrender your passport — UAE law allows employees to hold their own passports
  • Get your Emirates ID and labour card as soon as possible
  • Open a UAE bank account for your salary
  • Register with the Consulate — Diaspora Registration ›
